Orthotic
A support, brace, or splint used to support, align, prevent, or correct the function of movable parts of the body. Shoe inserts are orthotics that are intended to correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern, by altering slightly the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface.
In CMT, a foot orthotic is commonly used to bring the foot into proper alignment. Often, an orthotic shoe insert is used in conjunction with a rigid ankle brace. Sometimes, rather than a shoe insert, the brace is molded to facilitate corrected foot alignment. An orthotic is not limited to just an appliance that corrects foot alignment.
